Yes, it is very difficult to beat without some intervention and treatment.

I remember in the 90s working out all the time, especially on my abs because I though I was fat, and then I found a picture from 10yrs. ago before I went on another diet and I looked awesome, but I remember at the time thinking I was fat. A few years before I shed 30 lbs. in 3 months for the same reason which put me sickly under weight for my frame. So I guess I did.

This is a site that addresses some good statistics on eating disorders: http://www.state.sc.us/dmh/anorexia/statistics.htm I would say that a) it varies widely depending on the type of the eating disorder, b) it depends on how quickly treatment is attained - the longer one remains in a pattern of disordered eating, the harder it will be to overcome that pattern and break the cycle, and c) it depends on the support system the person builds with medical and mental health practitioners and family and friends.

Yes. I don't know if it is just really, really common. Or I happen to meet and form bonds with people with EDs. Of the 5 housemates I have had - all 5 have had EDs. There have been other friends too.

Yes, a good friend of mine suffered from bulimia but didn't tell me about it until after she started seeking treatment. I had no idea!!

Yes, my daughter was diagnosed as anorexic; she has overcome the stresses in her life which resulted in the anorexia, and is a happy and well-adjusted young lady now.
