  • coyotes and wolves are both canines, they are not the same species, but they are in the same familty. The species are also closely related genetically, this means they can breed and produce young. The same is true of different species of dolphins, tigers with lions, polar bears with grizzly bears, and horses with donkeys.
  • They are of the same genus - Canis. Sometimes animals of the same genus, but not species can reproduce. Typically, offspring will be sterile which is what I would assume happens with Wolves and Coyotes.
