Good question. External noise are the atmospheric noise due to temperature and the sounds that you hear every day. . Internal noise is due to electromagnetic flactuations,like adjacent electric wires,loose connections,improper shieldings etc.

I always thought external noise was the washing machine for instance and the internal noise is your own mental chatter interfearing with your ability to listen.
