By incorporating a few healthy habits into your daily routine, you can keep your complexion looking clearer. Take a look at some of them: Never skip breakfast - eat a balanced meal such as a high-fiber cereal, fruit or juice, and low-fat milk or yogurt. If you use a vitamin and mineral supplement, take it with your meal for optimum absorption, and make sure it contains no more than 150 mcg of iodine, which can worsen acne. Diet doesn't cause acne, but good nutrition is important for overall good health and clear, radiant skin. To keep your skin looking its best, drink at least 8 glasses of water throughout the day - more with exercise. Be sure to drink water before, during and after strenuous exercise to hydrate and rejuvenate your skin. A cleansing routine is essential for keeping a clear complexion. Gently cleanse your face twice a day to remove excess oil, bacteria and dead skin cells. Be careful not to overwash - this can cause dryness or increase oil production. Consistent sun bathing will increase clogged pores and comedos. Initially, sun can seem to improve acne because it temporarily dries out your skin. But your skin produces more oil to compensate, which can increase acne. Sun can also increase the risk of scarring. Always apply a sunscreen with at least SPF-15 to protect against the sun. All makeup can clog your pores. If you wear makeup, be sure it's oil-free and non-comedogenic for best results. Exercise improves circulation and helps you relax, reduce stress and feel more energized. Your skin benefits from an increase in blood flow achieved by a higher heart rate and oxygen level in the bloodstream. When you exercise, wear loose-fitting cotton clothing. Don't wear any makeup - even oil-free and non-comedogenic makeup can clog your pores if worn when you perspire. Take a few moments for yourself. The stress of work, school and your daily routine can increase the level of the hormone cortisone in your body. This causes your skin to secrete more oil and can cause acne flare-ups. Most adults need at least 7 hours of sleep each night. If you don't get enough rest, your skin may look pale and dull, and it can break out.

I have acne and I did fantastically with accutane, but unfortunately it is expensive and dangerous and... get this... I am one of the 20% or so of people whose acne has returned! (not as bad... and I hope it doesn't get any worse)... but the one thing I have noticed that helps more than anything is diet! After I read Dr. Perricone's book about acne, I decided to try a diet with extremely low sugar and carbs. His eating regime is very expensive because of the predominance of salmon and blueberries and other expensive foods, so I tried the South Beach diet (this was before I did accutane, when my acne was very bad) and in about a week and a half, my skin was so clear! I found I was able to eat moderate amounts of whole grains (Kashi, both cooked and puffed, and the Genesis Ezekiel bread, and some Rye-vita or Wasa crackers were good, and that way I didn't feel too deprived). I found stevia to use in my coffee and tea--it's a natural sweetener without sugar. One of the reasons I did accutane was not to have to follow a strict diet, since I'm in college and work in food service (catering job gets me a lot of free meals but they're definitely not south-beach or perricone approved)... still, now that my acne is starting to show up again, I'm planning to go back on phase one of south beach after exams (since I like my weight, I'll probably just follow the types of foods, and give myself larger portions so I don't drop pounds). Soon after that, though, I'm travelling out of the country and I won't be able to have that much control over my carb intake (in Morocco, I won't be eating salads or raw stuff in restaurants because of health risks, so there will probably be more couscous than I would prefer), so I plan to pack carb blockers in addition to my usual zinc and vitamin a tablets (stick to the RDA for vitamin a, especially if you are a girl because any more can cause fetal deformations) which both really do help. Chromium piccolinate is supposed to help block carbs but I don't really think it does much--the carb/starch blockers like phase II are better. also, the only makeup that doesn't worsen my skin is bare minerals (although I used a drugstore liquid makeup when I was on accutane and my skin was very dry and it was impossible for me to get zits)... I've tried others and noticed a big difference... plus bare minerals has great sun coverage (technically it's only spf 15 but it keeps my skin pale)... good luck! rose

You should really try Acne Gel. It's a great product for acne, it dries up pimples, zits, and all types of acne making them go away or much smaller! It works miracles. You can find it at any drug store or department store, for instance Walmart. It's great! Once you see a pimple appearing or if you see one the day of a prom or a special ocassion just pu ton Acne Gel and it wipes it away in the next 10 mins!!! It's wonderful! All you have to do is apply the Acne Gel to the area where the acne is, leave for at least 10 mins or more or until it completely dries the acne, then wash off with some water. You really have to get this, it will really help you! It only costs you about $2.99 or less! Another good thing that will work for bad acne problems would be proactive. I think they are now selling it at drug stores or maybe you still have to buy over phone. But it also works wondefuls! It's great! That's a really good product for lots of acne on the face! Also you can try Neutrogena! It also works! It can help lighten the skin tone while taking away pimples. You can basically find this at any department store in the hygeine/bathing/cosmetics area. It's wonderful!

Try changing your diet. Doctors will tell you your diet doesn't cause acne, although if you've ever suffered a major break out after a chocolate binge you'll know this is a complete lie. I have no idea why doctors claim this, but they do, and I can tell you from experience it ain't true. In my teens I read a study in a newspaper that claimed acne is almos unheard of in areas that don't eat a typical western diet with its refined carbohydrate, and that shifting to a diet based only on wholegrains (brown rice, gram and rye flour breads, quinoa, barley etc) plus plenty of fresh, unprocessed (and preferably raw, or lightly cooked) veg acne could be significantly reduced. It sounded like it was worthe a go, and seeing as it was all healthy stuff anyway I figured it couldn't do much harm- bingo- there is no spot cream on this earth that beats eating properly. Its made a difference to some extent with pretty much everyone I've recommended it to. (I also found that going on the contraceptive pill helped, but that may not be appropriate for everyone!) Here are the basic rules I followed, they're pretty standard healthy eating stuff: - Avoid any white flour product. White bread, white pasta, bagels, doughnuts. In fact keep any kind of wheat product to a minimum, but if its white don't even go there. -avoid all refined and processed foods. This includes fast food, ready meals, sweets and cakes (other than a wholemeal brown sugar fruit cake now and then), white rice, burgers, processed potato products, processed meats and similar. Try to avoid canned food with added salt, sugar or flavouring. Cook from scratch using fresh ingredients wherever you can. Chocolate is ok occasionally if its very good quality dark chocolate, but if you have a sweet tooth, try strawberries instead. - Limit your dairy intake. Try switching to soya or rice milk. -eat lots of fruit and veg, at least some of it should be raw. Vitamin rich blueberries and peaches are especially good.DOn't overdo citrus as it aggravates some people's skin. -Avoid overly spicy or greasy foods. If your using oil, make it extra virgin olive. -Drink loads of water throughout the day. Avoid fizzy drinks, but juices and smoothies are ok. Try to go without alcohol, caffeine and nicotine if you can, or at least cut back as far as you can. -eat organic whenever possible. In terms of actual skincare, invest in a bottle of lavender essential oil and a bottle of sweet almond oil. Add a few drops of the lavender to the bottle of almond oil and use as a facial cleanser once a day (massage in, remove residue with cotton wool and rinse well- it removes eye make up too). Exfoliate 1-2 times a week using an oatmeal based scrub (you can make your own using natural yoghurt as a base- equal parts oatmeal and yoghurt is a good consistency or buy one) It may take a while but in time you will notice a change.

one of my favorite tricks: WASH YOUR FACE WITH TOOTHPASTE!!!!!!!!!!!! it really works!! <the whitening kind> it'll tingle and a few days later the problem 'spots' will have dried up and will slough off the next time you exfoliate. works like a charm!! ^_^

tea tree oil is worth a go, but it does irritate my eyes. also witch hazel. the best idea is a good skincare routine to balance the natural oils in your skin

One thing to do is alter your diet. The acne is an internal condition that manifests itself on the skin. The worst thing to eat is fried foods for the oil and fat content are beneficial to the propagation of acne. Also soft drinks with high sugar is another cause. There is natural ointments that would help from the health food stores but the acne will persist with bad eating habits.

Diet- avoid processed grains, sugar. Drink lots and lots of water. Make sure you are getting plenty of vitamins A and B-complex, preferrably through diet, not vitamins. Treatment- Find a BP cream that has a lower-percentage than 10%, not the Oxy or Clearasil max versions. For me, these dry out my skin too much, which will make my skin produce more sebum, in turn creating more pimples... you get the picture. Wash face twice a day with a mild soap. Use an oil-free moisturizer on top of the BP treatment everyday. Habits- Wash hair often, keep it off of your face. Try to not touch your face during the day. If you use compact powder during the day, keep the puff clean by washing it with your face cleaner. Do this with any applicator that touches your face often. Hope this helps, I wish I would have figured this out 10 years ago. Good luck!

Eat a healthy diet, exercise, use tea tree oil, avoid all chemical soaps and cosmetics and wash your face in cold water.

I've been using a masque (like Mint Julep or Dead Sea Mud) once a week and it's helped dry up my oily spots. Wash your face well with an acne wash and then apply the mask as it's directions state. Afterwards, moisturize with a moisturizer that is specifically for acne prone skin. Good luck!

It really depends on what is the cause of them and how many. If its a sporadic once in a while thing, a little dollop of toothpaste on it helps. If its a major problem, it would be best to go to the doctor. There are so many presription remedies that can do wonders.

Here's what I do. It's a bit nerdy though. 1. Use a pin to open them. 2. Push out as much of the infection as possible. 3. Clean entire break-out area with rubbin alcohol. lastly- Start washing your face with LAVA soap. Whatever it has in it heals'em up quicker and, after some time, your face will be naerly spotless. The soap can be bought at Wall-Mart. You will still break-out, just not as often or as much.

Clearasil Overnite.

Age - loss of hormones seems to do the trick. I don't necessarily recommend this remedy, however. : (
