Have you heard of the writing/publishing trend: "from blog to book"? Do you think that's a good strategy (blog regularly, then propose, then publish), especially for memoir or niche non fiction?

I keep wanting to start it, but honestly, naming it is what is driving me insane... isn't that ridiculous? I want to write about my new life in NY - it's a pretty interesting coming of age story! Lots of funny/ interesting/ random stories to tell. At least for me :D

I hear you.
How about a no rules - no editing - any idea is ok - whiteboard session? Set a kitchen timer for 15 minutes. Think about your blog and just write out all the different words, phrases, aspects, "things" you come up with that you know will be part of your blog. (You're imagining it about 3 to 6 months down the road) If you had to "tag" each blog entry with a word or phrase (ie subtopics) what do you suppose you'll be writing about?
Or .. will you do it as a sort of running diary / commentary / life as you live it sort of thing?
If the latter, then use the white board and timer just to get a title.
A perfect stranger should be able to see what it is from your title. Remember too, you can have a short "____ _____ ______ _____" or so .. that's like a subtitle.
You know xxxxx: A Woman's Life in the Burbs. LOL
Ok, I'll stop typing now.
But come tap me on the shoulder when you come up with a title. I'll pour you a glass of wine. :)

What "tone" do you want to convey? Upbeat and sassy? Serious?

Hey! That's a darn good way to say it, Rosie ... "off-Broadway" experience that can lead to either the same part .. or simply bettering of one's craft .. so as to be "fit" for Broadway.

Ah yes ... excellent example. Actually I might not have known this but for a blog post I read today about it. :) That led to asking this question .. wondering about it as a publishing strategy.
One thing .. any publisher would know you have committment (posting regularly) and they've seen your writing style.
How's the tv series, by the way?

Good points all around. Seems to me it would also allow a forum for experimentation ... then once decided ... a habit can built .. a regular writing routine.
Really like the idea that you have a built in (if you've been growing it consistently - in a high quality way) readership. And yes, can do a "launch" from there - announce book signing tours, etc.
