Why does my 86'ford p/u have excesive play in stering wheel,could it be bad ball joints or tie rods?

    Could be tie rod ends, pitman or idler arms, or gear box may be worn..get it checked..if you have someone wiggle your steering wheel side to side from 11 o clock to 1 o clock while you watch your steering componants under truck..you can pinpoint where the play is coming from most of the time
