They alert me when they're close to the house, because we have tons of traffic around, and I see "red-light runners" several times a day. This causes me to worry, because my wife and kids are out there driving so often. I can only hope that they listen to me when I tell them to watch traffic closely. I've seen WAY too many traffic accidents in my area, many caused by running red lights.

Sadly enough I dismiss them. I asked a question similar to this. Asking why people even have car alarms anymore. They tend to annoy people more than alarm that, that you are in danger. +5

fire alarms no, but car alarms and police/ambulance sirens yes.

It is a good question. If it is unexpected, they alert me, but on a construction site where 100 vehicles are moving forwards and backwards, it is a confusing danger in itself. It must surely make people more complacent, let alone deaf.
