I'd prefer the foursome as it provides social interaction to enhance the enjoyment of the game. Chances are the strangers will be decent fellows whose company you will enjoy. Of course there is the chance one or more of them will not, which can make for a long day.

It depends on how I am feeling and more importantly how I am playing. Nothing is worse than getting teamed up with three guys that shoot 3 under when you are a +20 golfer.

I like slow days on the golf course. I like playing by myself or with a friend. Its meant to be a meditation and I like the fresh air and the plan of the day to be followed. strangers bring in issues like tobacco smoke, and alcohol, and cigar odors, and language.
