    Iron. That's probably why prehistoric cultures learned to smelt copper (and later bronze = copper + tin) before smelting iron. The copper & bronze ages preceded the iron age of most cultures.

    Iron has a higher melting point. Its melting point is 1534 dec C while that of copper is just 1083 deG C
