Do you remember the sequel to 2001:A space Odyssey, 2010 (circa 1985)? What was the significance of the very last scene in the movie?

    Yes I remember it. If I remember correctly (been a long time!) the final scene is based on Europa and as the camera pans along we see the (or rather a) Monolith. I can't remember if we even see a hint of a tentacle reaching towards it.

    If I have got the scene right then the significance of the scene is that the mysterious owners and builders of the Monoliths use these objects to apparently advance the evolution of selected species and monitor the progress of them. The sight of a Monolith on Europa indicates that just as they did this to humans on Earth as seen in 2001 they are starting yet another experiment on Europa. So the scene recalls some of the early scenes in 2001.
