What could cause an '89 Buick LeSabre to stall when you turn the wheel a bit tight just before putting it in gear? And why would it feel like the car slips sometimes while driving?

Not knowing how to drive a standard car properly can do it.

Usually turning left into a lake would do it. River as well. Tires get slippery when wet.

I think you use power when you turn the wheel causing something else to stall your car.....???? Slipping....could be the beginning of some transmission problems <just what you want to hear!> I thought I had Trans problems too but it was just a loose catalytic converter.........Junk the buick and get the new CAMARO!!!!

Your car is 20 years old and getting tired. It sounds like the transmission is getting close to letting go and the motor is probably on it's last leg too. RUS is right, get it in someplace for a free diagnostic. If I'm right, you'd be better off looking for a newer car. Once you start doing major expense repairs to an old car they turn into a money pit, costing you more and more, and all you're left with is an old junker that you'll never get your money back out of. In the long run it's cheaper to just replace the car now, before anything actually lets go.
