Question

Help answer this question below.

I've got a 1998 Jeep Cherokee and today the wipers stopped working. I thought it might be a blown fuse, but my owners manual does not show that there is a fuse for the front wipers. Is there a fuse for the front wipers, or is this problem more serious.

I have a similar problem in that my Cherokee's intermittent wipers act like they're on the low setting and when the switch is turned off, the wipers stay where they are (instead of returning to the bottom of the windshield).

I replaced the switch assembly and that had no effect.

I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee sport and had this same issue. My mechanic was super cool and pointed me in the right direction. I had to take off the interior panel surrounding the fuse console in the passenger foot well. It was a silver metal circuit breaker on the upper right side. Its 20a 12v and is in the slot numbered 30. With the panel on it is just out of view. That got my wipers and working again.

It looks to be a 7.5 amp circuit breaker located in the fuse panel. Look under the driver's side dash and you should find it. Should be rectangular in shape and under the turn signal relay (round sliver thing on top left)

According to the wiring diagram I was able to dig up at AutoZone.com, there is no fuse for the wiper motor circuit.

Instead, there is a circuit breaker. I can't tell if it is the self-resetting type or not. If not, you'll have to locate it and check whether it tripped or not.

If it didn't trip, then your next likely candidate is something called the "Intermittent Wiper Relay", which controls power going to the wiper motor.

If the relay has not failed, then it's most likely that the wiper motor itself went bad. The two other main components in the circuit are the wiper switch (which is unlikely to fail completely) and the "Body Control Module", which would cause all sorts of other problems (lights, audible warnings, etc.) if it failed.

    Good Luck

There's a circiut breaker in the fuse box located under the dash board on the drivers side. Jeep stopped making them so its expensive to order from jeep. Go to a junk yard. Hope this helps.
