Help answer this question below.

If the temputraure/pressure valve is leaking, can I shut off the water, but leave the pilot light and gas on? Will this case any problems?

    I would try to open the valve to release any grit that may be keeping the valve partially open.
    Place a bucket under the spigot at the bottom of the tank first and slowly open the spigot until it's running full blast. Shut off water main and then slowly open and release the overflow/pressure valve. Residual house pressure will force some water out. Ensure the valves are both closed and turn the water back on. If this does not stop the leak see below.

    NEVER turn off the water to the tank without turning off the gas, you could cause an unsafe pressure situation. Rotate the gas valve on the water heater to off and call a professional.
