How can I format an Xbox hard drive for use in a computer?

    i have a x3 ce and i jsut want to add a 80 gig hdd into the box, i cant seem to get the hdd to come up on teh comp, im hoping i didnt format it wrong to not show up, cause before the hdd was holding win xp just fine

    As far as I know, one method is as follows:

    1. Install a mod chip in your Xbox. I will use the Xecuter 3 as an example. The X3 chip comes with a Linux (unix?) based bios called Cromwell. This bios has a utility that allows you to "unlock" the xbox HD. If you are using another chip/bios, then you will have to find this utility yourself.

    2. Unlock the HD using this utility.

    3. Power down the xbox, and remove the HD.

    4. Install the HD into your PC and use any format utility (Fdisk is the simplest) to format the HD.

    Remember, the xbox uses a proprietary format on it's HD that is neither FAT32 or NTFS, it's somrthing else entirely. It will not work in a pc straight form the xbox, so step 4 is not optional.
