  • yes in some ways i do. but its conflicting. in my heart of hearts i dont believe that we just rot in the ground. but then again i cannot possibly see how there could be a god. but afterlife yes. god-maybe, but not in the conventional sense. i guess im more agnostic then atheist.
  • Nope. "I have never imputed to nature a purpose or goal, or anything that could be understood as anthropomorphic. What I see in nature is a magnificent structure that we can comprehend only very imperfectly, and that must fill a thinking person with a feeling of humility. This is a genuinely religious feeling that has nothing to do with mysticism. The idea of a personal god is quite alien to me and seems even naive." ~Einstein
  • I don't believe in a god, and the only after life I believe in is being awaken from a cryogenic sleep.
  • It really depends what you mean by higher power. It could be interpreted many ways by different people. If you mean 'is there any supernatural aspect to the universe?' then no I don't believe that at all. If you mean 'are there life forms more powerful than us out there somewhere?' then that's a maybe, I can't say for certain but I can say we know nothing of them so I must be firmly agnostic on that front. Perhaps if you could define what you mean by 'higher power' I could better answer the question. For all the examples of higher power I can think of the answer is 'no' but it depends on what you mean exactly. As for an afterlife I think any chance of anything beyond what we experience is highly unlikely. I don't believe in any form of afterlife, however I don't believe there is no afterlife just as I don't believe there are no gods. I can't say for certain but I am 99.99999% convinced that there is nothing out there in either regard. The more we learn about the brain the more we learn that what we mean when we say "I" or "our conciousness" is a product of the brain and physical process therein. We don't fully understand this yet but we are getting there. From this it would seem once the brain is gone 'we' are also gone as 'we' are nothing more than a function or feature of the brain. Furthermore there is no solid or reliable evidence of anything existing beyond this life despite repeated attempts to find something. And so on and so forth... it all adds up to a very deep scepticism of an afterlife. It is a nice thought but unfortunately probably nothing more than wishful thinking.
  • No I do not. Now I'm not saying that somewhere in the universe there may be some "person or persons" who have what we call "godlike powers", but are they watching over the earth at the moment with questionable motives I must say no - it is highly unlikely.. As to an "afterlife", well since theres no tangable proof that one exists or even a good theory on how one might exist I have to say absoloutly not. Science may advance someday to the point where we have something like "godlike powers", and perhaps even where there is a sort of "afterlife" or renewal of life & living after death - but that is still in the relm of science fiction and not fact. Actually I find the idea of "gods" interesting, and I wonder what life would actually be like if they really existed - so you could say I'm not entierly against the concept of "gods", but that I have seen no evidence of them here on the earth.
  • No. I am not sure what you mean by a "higher" power - I do not understand such a rating system. And there is no hard evidence for life after death, so therefore I do not believe in it.
  • I don't think their is anything beyond this, but if there is I don't think we are meant to concern ourselves with it during our lives, it will only be relevant once we've moved on from this life.
  • Afterlife would be the same as prebirth, I guess; just a complete lack of consciousness- but there may be something more than that, like going into a different dimension, perhaps.
  • I believe in a lot of higher powers - hope, memories, math, laws, etc. Some atheists believe in an afterlife, like Buddhists, and some do not. It's immaterial to the definition of atheist.
  • I say no to it all when we die our life is over n that's it!!!
  • Religion is a big Ponzi scheme where the priests or ministers promise you heaven for your weekly dollars. Besides, if they really believe, there wouldn't be pedophile Catholic priests and evangelists like Jimmy Swaggart. Who really believes the Adam and Eve, Noah's Ark and all the ridiculous stories they throw at the believers. When something bad happens, it is God testing your faith. Why? What is this an SAT test?
  • Personally, no.
  • I do not believe in God, however I believe of next life.and I think all good or bad things you done in this life will decide what will you become in the next life.
  • Did you really have to state the obvious? And, no, I am an Atheist and I don't have a "higher power" or believe in an "afterlife" if I did, I wouldn't be much of an Atheist, would I?
  • I have discovered no compelling evidence to persuade me that a god exists. There is compelling evidence that mental states supervene upon physiological states of the brain. In the absence of a functioning brain there can be no mental states. Dead people lack functioning brains. Dead people therefore lack mental states. An afterlife that did not involve mental states would not be experienceable. So an afterlife would be a strange state of existence, similar I imagine to the interior life of a pebble, or a dead person. If a person's afterlife is indistinguishable to the person from being dead, the person might as well be dead. I conclude that afterlife must be indistinguishable from prelife, the unexistence we did not experience before we were conscious in the very early years of life.
  • About the only 'higher' power I can believe in is one that has been demonstrated to exist- like nuclear fission. What after life?
  • Please define an atheist friendly higher power. . Afterlife has nothing to do with a belief in god at all - but I don't for the same reason I don't believe in god - no evidence to support such a belief.
