Luckily, no. Catch-22 is still in print. I lost my copy and was devastated. But not for long, I bought another and read it immediately.

I once lost a book at a restaurant while drinking with friends one night. I was only about half way through. I forgot all about it. Around 6 months later, we went back to there and they said, is this your book? I didn't recognize it at first but then it dawned on me. Hey that IS mine. I finished it and it was a really good story.

There were a series of Cole's Funny Picture books I read as a child, originally printed in the late nineteenth century. They had all kinds of entertaining scientific fascinations (they said with resolution that by the year 2000, we will have a giant airship with a self-contained ecosphere that can travel into outer-space). Now they're either lost or destroyed and I have no idea how to find other copies.

Catch-22 is quite awesome.
In my case, the books I'm missing might still be in print, but the only way I would be able to get them is if I go to Russia and visit many, many bookstores. The only online Russian bookstore that delivers to other countries doesn't have them. :(
