the label under the hood will tell you what engine was in it from the factory, however it wont say if its ever been changed. The best way to determin what is in your truck without dissassembling the engine would be to take it to a engine shop. most have a special tool that can tell you the displacement.
Look for an emission label attached to the underside of the hood. It will tell you what engine the car has.

You're reading I have a 1986 chevy silverado the guy i bought it from says it has a 327 in it how do i determine that its not a 305
