• Gideon, I dind't know that, thanks for the info. Could you tell me if gay couples in all these states are allowed to adopt a totally unrelated child, or do they mean that the couple can adopt each other's kids. For example, if a couple of women can arrange to adopt each other's child so that the child has two legal parents, or that the couple can just apply for adoption at an adoption organisation and adopt a 'stranger's child'. Do you know what I'm asking, I sound a little confusing perhaps!

• As far as I know, in all states but Florida, a gay person may adopt a related child, their partner's child or an unrelated child. In Florida, a gay person can not adopt a child under any circumstance.

• I'm pretty sure this is correct...not sure about Utah with unrelated adoptions...but all other states but FL (and maybe Utah) allow unrelated or related adoptions to my understanding at this time.

• That's a good thing and I am quasi surprised because I had the impression that the USA would discriminate against gay people since they don't allow same sex marriage (at least as far as I know but correct me if I'm wrong.)

• I know it's odd....We Americans are so paranoid about what happens behind closed bedroom doors that we deny the right to gay marriage, but it's okay to entrust the care of children to gays. It seem hypocritical. not that I find it wrong. I think gays should be able to marry, co-habitate, share estates and raise children. But many of us still have that Puritan gene.

• Haha good thing you didn't catch that gene. I'm originally Dutch and both gay marriage and adoption are legal there. But I live in Australia, where both gay marriage and adoption are illegal. Anyway it is good to hear that at least homosexual people can adopt in the USA. Something the bigots in Aussie still have problems with.

• I know plenty of gay/lesbian couples who have kids that are very happy, healthy and well-adjusted. They are not "mixed up" about anything. In fact, such children usually grow up more open-minded and "together" than those raised by straight families...especially when those families teach their children bigoted nonsense.
  FYI...the majority of gays/lesbians are born to straight couples. How mixed up is that?
