Round here, they are called "IQ reducers" - like baseball caps but with the peak on the other side. They are to signal the wearer's IQ to a wary world.

I don't know about guys but I wear mine backwards. It's cool and kind of sexy looking, or so I'm told. But really, I just find it comfortable.

That idiotic fad ended some time ago, only to be replaced by the, to the side look, although not to the same degree, as for the reason, I guess they think they look cool,"hey, look at me, I'm as cool as everyone else" If you look like everyone else, you are hardly cool.

I wear mine backwards sometimes to keep the sun off my neck, but usually so i don't dump it into dumpsters when I'm out scrapping.. I'm a graduate of the Institute of Klutzery..Beta Phi kappa. ;) (specialized in being a klutz)

Well. When one drives a forklift one needs visibility, and the brim of the hat can conceal danger-zones, but the hat also can keep debris from falling onto one's head (dust and dirt [etc...]). It might look silly to some folks but it can Save a life, given the appropriate context. :)

Some guys wear them backwards while welding or target shooting with a rifle because the bill gets in the way. When welding you want to wear a cap to keep sparks from getting in your hair.
