  • i think its a really sad thing that people feel the need to end their lives. Its sad how they don't see the worth every human has on earth
  • Generally suicide is a painkilling solution. Is it the "answer"? The answer to what? For most people who kill themselves, they see no other way to end their pain... but I suspect that they're wrong -- i.e. that there are actually better ways to end the pain. For someone who is terminally ill and in pain, it's more reasonable to conclude that there's no alternative.
  • Never the answer. Never, never, never.
  • I think suicide is never the answer. Nothing could ever be that bad that would make you want to kill yourself.
  • I dont think its ever the answer, I do think sometimes however that it is the only answer that person can see at the time. Because when you go down that road of thought its very hard to see a tomorrow.
  • Sorry dupe comments... 404 error strikes again.
  • I see suicide and most often a tragic and permanent solution to a temporary problem. It has repercussions for many people and for a long time. While it may purport to end the suffering of one person, it perpetuates suffering in others. Is it the answer? That would depend upon the question. O find that often, it is not our answers that are misguided, but that we have not asked all the right questions or explored all the alternatives. Generally, I believe that most suicides are the result of depression and that depression is often very treatable. Hopelessness is often the result of not having all the information or options. How could we hate you for asking an honest question? I hope these answers are helpful to you.
  • I think it is very sad that people feel the only option left to them is suicide. However, that is when looking at it from the point of view of depression. In cases where someone has a degenerative condition which is not going to get better, but is only going to get worse, and which is going to rob them of all their dignity, or their mind, and alter them into another "person", I think they ought to have the option of committing suicide, or being assisted to commit suicide.
  • Cowardice
  • Well, it is the ultimate expression of personal responsibilty, and, for that person, I would think it is a rather personal decision. So, to say it is or is not the solution to problems, or whatever is inspirting the thought of such an act, would be hard to guage. It does, of course, for the person doing it, solve their problems in once sense that, they do not have to address or deal with them anymore. So, for that purpose, it is the answer. But to use this as the SOLE decision for such a drastic measure, is not a solution. Ultimately, the challenges of life can be exciting, but this requires effort, discipline and energy ... suicide, IMO, is when these are lacking and emotionally, there is poor balance or irregularity. So the answer? Not really. The solution? There are better ones. I guess it comes down to if the person really wants to try to make things better or if, in this "have it now", "immediate gratification" society we live in, it is indirectly logical :-)
  • Many consider it when it is difficult to find a way out of the pain and anguish of what appears to be an impossible situation but I think only truly unwell people ever go through with it. Problems are all down to how you perceive them. And most people can and do eventually rationalise a way through their problems without attempting suicide, they can lock onto something that prevents them from actually carrying out the act. There is a huge difference between considering it and carrying it out and it is important not to feel guilty for considering it, but more you should be feeling a sense of achievement for not taking the thoughts through to action, because this can be the fulcrum whereby your depression may tip into something more difficult to come out of. Suicide is something that only truly, unwell people actually go through with. Depression is an illness that needs to be taken seriously. It is a state of mind that feeds upon negative thoughts and it is very difficult to consiously rationalise with yourself to stop believing the negativity and dark thoughts when you are already spiraling down into your own personal, internal horror. Depression for many can be a potentially deadly disease and it can be very difficult for others who have not been so deeply involved in it themselves to realise just how difficult it can be for someone to recover from it. I believe that the actual action of suicide is not something you have a consious control over if you are already so deep that you are no longer in control of your own thoughts. If people want to prevent suicide they have to learn to recognise the spiral process before it gets so far and lift out of it before they are no longer in control of their own thoughts. For many this can take a lot of practice and may only be achieved with appropriate support.
  • Not a good way out. Karma may have you come back at the place you left off... i think the view is that you come back and do it all over again... but in extreme cases assisted suicide may be the most humane, whether right or wrong.
