I could not find any data on this. So I do not know if it policy to hire little people for cramped spaces or not. I do have a friend who is a "little person" who worked for one of the aircraft manufactures and he was always assigned to crawlspaces and "tight" spaces. Perhaps more as a coincidence than anything else. I would assume that aircraft are designed so the average sized person can reach all of the parts. Aircraft do get regular maintenance and I doubt that enough "little people" are out there interested in this line of work to meet the needs.

Yes, and they did'nt have a good tracking system for accountability. I believe these little people were left in most of the planes. In fact, I think they're the back up for when the hydrolics go out.

Little people were used during World War II to work in cramped areas of larger planes such as B-17's and B-24's.

It seems to me that a multi-billion dollar industry would not bet on such a small% of the population to do critical functions like that. What if there were on "little people" in the newly hired generation of production workers (lets say there was a full scale remake of "wizard of Oz" going on.) Sound planning and production would design equipment and procedures around a normal sized worker, but a shop would be silly to not use a competent workers who had some special advantage for a specific task. Thats how I sees it.
