My first credit card had a $250 limit and I went a bought a new pair of heels for a wedding. I was 22 when I got it.
Apparently American Express beat Bank America to the market by several months.
I also got my first credit card - a Barclaycard - about 30 years ago. I think the credit limit was quite low - about £80. Prior to that I had a Barclaybank debit card, which was the card you needed to use the first ATMs anywhere in the world.
My first was a Sears card, they didn't care if you had an income or not! lol.
By the way, it was actually called the "Bank Americard" not the "Bank Americacard"

You're reading Anyone remember getting your first Visa or Mastercard? I do, and it was 30 years ago. It was called Bankamericacard and it was the first of its type. They eventually changed the name of the card to Visa. It had a credit limit of $50.00. For Students only
