I just posted a question and after receiving 5 answers was rejected as a duplicate The older question was substituted but it was originally asked over a year ago Now the original poster is getting my points! How long do questions remain active on AB?

• The points I earned stayed with me but it looks like subsequent points go to the original poster. Now that I have activated the question more people are answering and giving points to the original poster. There should be some kind of time limit on questions. Otherwise isn't it conceivable we will run out of questions? I think after a year or so questions should become dormant. JMHO Thank you for your response.

• We will never run out of questions. New people will be in abusive relationships or have other relationship problems, new products are introduced every year, new music, TV and movies come out every year, new political actions will happen, new ... You get the idea? Yes... Some of those questions about the new stuff will be duplicates. But the vast majority will not.

  Most of us who have been here for some time, while we do enjoy the points, they mean less to us than helping AB be the best Q&A site out there, helping those who really need the help, and enjoying each others' company, questions, answers, and comments. Basically, "the points will come" is the attitude most of us take. ;-)

• If you have questions that are flagged and accepted as dupes, and they are not the same (and you can argue your point to the staff), they may be reinstated. Remember, though, that though you won that battle, someone else could flag the question, new moderators could accept the flag, and you have to fight another battle.

  Recently, the dupe selection questions appeared correctly, but the links behind them were wrong, resulting in what may be a large number of bad dupes. (NOTE: Bad dupes DO happen, even when everything is working right.) If that's the case, go to the question, scroll to the bottom of the page, click Feedback, and state your case for them NOT being dupes. If staff accepts your argument, the questions will be "unmerged".

• Absolutely true, even questions about t.v. and movies will change. Mine wasn't really time based since I asked what you would like to do when it is gloomy and raining outside but I would think it would attract a different bunch responders from the first people who responded a year and a half ago. • Well as much as I wasn't expecting such a defensive response, I do appreciate your views. As for forming a rebellion that is a ridiculous conclusion to come to. I was expressing my opinion, naive as it may be, not looking for a civil war. Good business and projects are often based on brainstorming. It doesn't mean all the ideas are good or even used but expressing them can be thought provoking which in turn can lead to making the project even better than it was originally.

• I was not being "defensive", but explaining what happens. The paragraph about "fomenting rebellion" was out of line. I'm sorry. If you wish, I will remove it, but your comment will then be out of place. THAT will be up to you.

  The "AB is not a game" paragraph is because MANY users who complain about this do so because they consider AB a game, wanting the points to move up and up, and try to get themselves on the leaderboards by DRing those above them.

  The reason I said anything about that is that we have had users in the past who try to use the way AB does things that they don't like to get others to "join" them in protesting and complaining. Most of them are gone, now.

  I apologize, again. I tend to write answers, not only for questioner, but others who may be interested in them.
