What should I do to protect my PC from the "Cornficker" virus?

Well, that's easy, if you download anything, then download from trusted places. If you download from torrents, then remove Denis Stalker tracker(s).
Always have a good AV, that can actually detect viruses, (unlike AVG and NOD32) and have a good FW, like ZoneAlarm, wich can block intrusions (or you can let your modem to be setup to block shit attacks). And go get Microsoft's updates.
Oh yeah, you may think of not visiting porn sites for some time. ;)

Download Spybot 1.6.2
It removes broken entries in the registry and fixes viruses all for FREE!

To protect your computer from Conficker, experts recommend that you:

Keep your system's patches up to date.
Maintain a good anti-virus product.
Disable AutoRun.
Use strong passwords.
Ensure that shared folders are secured.
