Check if you are getting the current in the spark plugs by unplugging the lead to the spark plug and ask someone to start the vehicle by keeping the lead at a distance from the spark plug to see if its sparking. If its not getting the spark, problem with your ignition sytem, most probably problem with your ignition coil.

That about covers it, yeah - fuel pump or electrical would be the two main suspects. You could also try checking compression - but that is likely to affect one or two cylinders, not the whole lot at once.

Hi, My 1993 Explorer was acting exact liked yours earlier. First I though it was my starter or alternator, but they both turn out to be in working order after verified by my mechanic. By replacing my FUEL PUMP, it's solved instantly! Since SENDING UNIT is located in the same location as fuel pump. I strongly recommended you to replace it at the same time to save money for future. If you are planning on to keep the car for while.
