From an LDS Scholar "...when determining whether or not Joseph could have written the Book of Mormon, we should actually be looking at the first edition...and not the current version...which has been altered by people other than Joseph Smith." Thoughts?

They had a first edition signed by Joseph Smith on the Antique Road show not too long ago. I don't see why LDS should go to any trouble to change the Book of Mormon when they can just add any new "revelation from God" to the Book of Doctrine and Covenants.

I always am leery of comments by unnamed "LdS scholars". I am not even sure how one qualifies for such a distinction.

I disagree with that statement in part. Joseph Smith Jr made numerous corrections to the 1830 edition (and other early printings) while he was still alive.

The only changes to the Book of Mormon (in English) since the murder of Joseph have been in the non-canonized parts (chapter headings, foot notes, Introduction, etc).

No cities mentioned in the Book of Mormon still exist here in the Americas. Unlike the Bible, who's majority are still there...Bethelhem, Nazareth etc etc

The Book of Mormon is not in the Smithsonian Institution. When asked why they responded that the BofM is not historically accurate.

No Shields, Swords, etc have been found from the alledged sprawling/warring civilizations mentioned in the Book of Mormon.

Mathematically the book makes glaring errors. There is a verse in 2 Nephi, I believe, where it talks of 15 people turning into a large civilization and that was supposed to have occurred in 3 generations. Not mathematically possible and evidence that this is not inspired of God.

joeie smith screwed up the Bible and his daydream books so much to start, we don't need "mormon scholars" to screw them up up more. they are a large brainwashed cult, don't forget that.

  • My first thought is certainly. The first Vision is written down as it supposedly happened. The following eight were just Joseph attempting to modify his previous statements.

As Smith said this is the only true word of God. appears he he wrong since they made over 4,000 corrects then again one of the presidents said our God is not the God of the bible so if there is. another God floating around it could be right. Who knew what in the 1830's he could get away with whatever he wanted. In 2009 there is way too information only they claim it is anti-mormon propaganda, there appears to be the thruth but they don't want to look at it.
