Question

Help answer this question below.

Would you consider yourself "homeless" if you owned a small cargo van or a larger UPS style step van? Sure, your address would change from 1313 Mocking Bird Lane to "WPL 683", BUT, would you be truly "homeless"?

Yes, I would. I'd be glad for shelter, but without a bathroom and kitchen I wouldn't consider it a home.

So long as the cosmos provides a roof, and the grass my carpet… I am never homeless.

There's no such thing as homeless, only how big and savage your home is. You are a vagrant though.

It depends on whether or not you sleep in the van by choice or by necessity.

i wouldn't but everyone else would.
especially legal factions like DMV drivers license and everyone else relating to jobs etc.
unless you can get a permanent address like at an RV park etc.
Because if you live on a boat , usually you have an address at the dock.

I owned a Ford E-250 Van had dual tanks and it was so big. I wished I had one of those pop tops or additional tops on it. I could have done a bit more customizing on it.

But the "Delivery Van" concept is quite good and practical for a single person or two. I know a few who use the 26' variety and they have NEVER been hassled by cops or anyone.

Trick is? They are white and have the usual jumble of numbers on them. Someone comes by and sees this, they think "Oh, that's just a delivery van" Ahah!! Fooled you and they've been doing that for 5+ years now.

I have one I'm converting soon..No more pricey rent for me!!

This all sounds good, but most people, even those barely hanging on simply don't go out to purchase a van or cargo van or whatever. In most cases it's just barely enough to pay the rent, utilities, and buy food.
You probably live in a nice neighborhood, but go buy a big van with no real address and try to find a place to park it where the city won't hassle you and that alone is nearly impossible in most cases. Once they find out you live in it it becomes even harder.
I live in a shed this very minute and if the city knew i lived here they would immediately evict me so I could go live in my pickup truck that i use to sell scrap metal with.
On top of that to live in a van you also need to cover the cost of insurance and you HAVE to have a drivers license just to move it plus there is gas, maintenance and so on. A flat tires and you're screwed unless you have a compressor and know how to plug a tire. (I do)
Once the city is aware of your living there the barriers go up one after another after another until you eventually end up with no van because they impound it and then where do you live? Jail. Wonderful idea.
