  • I don't think that experts have decided which is better. I personally like the two-handed backhand more. I think it provides more accuracy and more topspin. Then again, I have hardly practiced the one-handed version. I have heard that the one-handed backhand is bad for one's elbow.
  • Throughout my career I have played with both. In my expert opinion you have to consider a few factors that will lead to the correct answer. Like Sampras, suiting your game into a perfect fit is the key here. Along with determining how well your body moves with the strokes. If you have a hard time developing power on the backhand side, a long stroked one hand backhand may be useful. Although the one hand backhand has a reputation of having a problem with consistence, many players in todays game have found much more useful in reaching and disquising a backhand. A two handed backhand takes a lot more time to get use to the timeing but in returning, providing player with good consistence and return of serves games. So whether your playing a flat or a spin game, your decision will lie only on what feels right and connecting the dots to suit your game better.
  • two handed backhand has more control than a 1 hander, if your new go with a two handed backhand.
  • Well these days almost all coaches teach the 2-hander, although if your like me and just cant get around on the idea, or cant execute, a 2 handed backhand, be prepared to have to work for YEARS to get your one-hander even decent, a 2 hander provides more power, a 1-hander provides more reach and wrist usage
