Any work that a person can perform passionately can be thought of as "an art". The lack of a market in our culture does not prevent the field from existing, ye philistines. By that token you might just look at the last few decades and say that music is not art because "it's purpose is annoying parents, not creative expression". o.O

Why do you feel the need for quotation marks around art? Maybe art should put quotation marks around "you" and your "education." Art runs the gamut of human experience and emotion, and sexuality is fair game as subject matter. One of the greatest sculptors of the past 200 years, Auguste Rodin, did a number of pieces on sexual themes that are well accepted as major artworks.
