The Blue Screen of Death (sometimes called "bluescreen", "stop error" or just abbreviated as "BSOD") is the popular name for the screen displayed by Microsoft's Windows operating system when it cannot recover from, or is in danger of being unable to recover from, a system error (the Microsoft term is Stop error). There are two Windows error screens that are both referred to as the blue screen of death, with one (Windows NT 4/2000/XP/Vista) being significantly more serious than the other (Windows 9x). There are several causes of the blue screen popping up. It can be a poorly-written device driver, bad memory, damaged registry or usage of incompatible versions of DLLs (see more on the "Types of blue screens" section). The blue screen of death in one form or another has been present in all Windows operating systems since Windows version 3.1. It is the successor of the less well-known black screen of death that occurs in OS/2 as well as MS-DOS[1]. In early builds of Windows Vista it was complemented with a red screen of death, used for boot loader errors. wikpedia

G'day Drublic, Thank you for your question. The "Blue Screen of Death" is the screen shown by Windows when it crashes due to a system error. There are two Windows error screens that are both referred to as the blue screen of death, with one (Windows NT 4/2000/XP/Vista) being significantly more serious than the other (Windows 9x). There are several causes of the blue screen popping up. It can be a poorly-written device driver, bad memory, damaged registry or usage of incompatible versions of DLLs. It has existed since Windows 3.1 and is the successor to the black screen of death that existed in other systems. I have attached sources for your reference. When a computer component fails, and it's time to scandisk you harddrive. After I formatted my old Compaq, this blue screen came up with a BUD WEISER!!!! I searched it on google, and it says many computers got it, with the service pack 2 update. It was scary, mostly, because I'm underaged to drink. It was a nice experience too.

Want to freak out a geek... Get the official Blue Screen of Death screensaver right from Microsoft...Your geek friends will freak. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Miscellaneous/BlueScreen.mspx Quote: Introduction One of the most feared colors in the NT world is blue. The infamous Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) will pop up on an NT system whenever something has gone terribly wrong. Bluescreen is a screen saver that not only authentically mimics a BSOD, but will simulate startup screens seen during a system boot. Bluescreen cycles between different Blue Screens and simulated boots every 15 seconds or so. Virtually all the information shown on Bluescreen's BSOD and system start screen is obtained from your system configuration - its accuracy will fool even advanced NT developers. For example, the NT build number, processor revision, loaded drivers and addresses, disk drive characteristics, and memory size are all taken from the system Bluescreen is running on. Use Bluescreen to amaze your friends and scare your enemies!

You know how some people see a tunnel with a light at the end of it when they pass? Other people see a big blue screen when they pass. Hence, the name Blue Screen of Death.

I got it the hard way. If in case you didn't hear about it, there is still a ban on Youtube here where I am at right now. Thailand has blocked all access to Youtube. I got the video though, it's hilarious! Thanks.

its basically a blue screen error message. it means their is something seriously wrong with your pc. you either have a virus or a hardware problem- meaning u might of switched your pc off using the power button on ur pc, instead of going to start and shut down, or it cud be a different hardware problem. i wouldnt call it BSOD (BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH). i call it a 'blue screen error message'.
