How can i password protect personal pictures on my laptop? Is this even possible?

There is no built in software in XP/win that i know of. You can down this encryption software to protect your folders. Encryption Shield It can encrypt files of any type or length. Source(s): http://www.encryptionshield.com

you can set the permissions under the properties/security tab, and use logins for your computer. I place all my sensitive files in 1 directory then hide it.

First select Your folder which you want to lock. Suppose paint is my private folder and it stored into E: drive. In the same drive ( eg. E:) you need to create two bat file. Create a new text file there & Open it in note pad. Type in: ren paint paint.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} Save it in as lock.bat Again open another text file and type: ren paint.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} paint Now save this as a unlock.bat Now you can see 2 batch files lock and unlock Double click on lock.bat and the folder paint's icon will change to control panel and you cannot view its contents. Double click on unlock.bat and you will get back your original folder. Try it..........!

Do a google search for TRUE CRYPT. the program is free and it uses state of the art AES encryption. this will allow you to password protect just about anything, INCLUDEING CD/DVD data disks.

You might want to consider having a separate log in on that machine. That was you can password protect all of your documents and pictures. You can buy software but choosing to log in to your account is easier.

Ok if thats the matter i will tell you what to do:- 1.I think the best way is use "WINRAR" to encrypt that as just make an password protected archive of your pictures .it will compress your file and save hard disc space too. 2.if you would like to use some encryption software you can use "Folder lock"

If you only wanna protect pictures... Use a simple zip file compression on them or Rar and use password when you compress... I used winrar for many files and think the level of encryption is so difficult if you use a really good password, a dictionary can't even crack them well... http://www.ultimatezip.com/ (not winrar but good & free) Another good program is True Crypt if you are looking for something a bit more advanced...
