  • No. No one writes poetry any more, not to speak of. The real poets are song writers and even they have dropped off quite a lot.
  • There are some good modern poets, but 'modern' seems to mean anything in the last 50-100 years, so people like Plath, Ted Hughes, Benjamin Zephaniah and Wendy Cope count. The last 20 years don't seem to have produced much poetry on a grand scale though. Some of the best poets around are found in open poetry readings in village halls, as many, especially today's youth, aren't generally interested in it any more.
