Despite the risks, wouldn't women PREFER that their men took steroids?

• Cowardly? What's wrong with trying to be the best? How is taking drugs to make yourself better any different from say, drinking a protein shake, wearing make up, or wearing different clothes?

• a protein shake is also very strange and i don't like them either. makeup is hiding flaws but i don't really wear make-up that often because i don't like it. People that wear a lot of makeup are trying to hide something and are cowardly. Wearing different clothes is more of a preference. Taking drugs and trying to medically change your body is unnatural and weird and i don't like it at all.

• They're called 'Whey Protein' drinks, because of the high level of protein, and because they're made from cheese whey. They ARE developed in a lab, but saying that, most foods are, especially health foods and supplements. And they're not supposed to make you better at what they do. They're a health supplement. They're used to boost protein intake (I NEED it because I simply can't afford to eat so much meat). They're used to supplement a pre-existing diet. They're not just for body builders though. They're for all pro athletes, and people who simply aren't eating enough protein.
  
  My point is, steroids are about as unnatural as clothes, any physical training, and any medicine (steroids are developed for medicinal use) and anything like make up, hair cuts, clothes, flying, or even driving are car.
  
  I do respect that you simply don't like them for no real reason, I have friends who are body builders who simply don't like them.

• Just because you don't believe my reasons doesn't mean they aren't real. We have very different opinions on health and fitness but you are more educated in that area. My opinion on steroids are not to do with health and fitness but on more ethical reasons. I don't think that steroids are right. Says what you want but i am set in my opinion and all of this arguing is really getting us nowhere.

• I wouldn't know for certain. But I watched a documentary once on bodybuilders and there were very few that were freakishly large that weren't on steroids. So obviously there is more tendency to get that large with steroids.

• That's only a very small portion of people though isn't it? Think about professional athletes, think about people who take steroids for medical reasons. A steroid cycle only lasts a few weeks (a proper safe cycle at least), and won't usually add a ridiculous amount of muscle. When it comes to body builders (Mr Olympia), that muscle has taken years and years to be accumulated. I know plenty of people who have used steroids to reach a certain level of mass, and not to get freakishly large!
  
  Sorry for ranting, but I get frustrated when people talk about steroids in such a black and white "matter of fact" way! If I was going to be so black and white about something like.. obesity, I would get grilled.

• You can rant all you want, but it won't change my opinion. Normal muscle mass can be gained by hard work in the gym. Steroids are not needed to reach a naturally attractive muscle mass--natural body builders do it all the time. Sure, some are genetically blessed, but the person who requires steroids to 'reach' some level of mass will have great difficulty maintaining it if they couldn't generate it on their own--so why bother?
  
  The whole purpose of taking steroids is to increase muscle mass *beyond* normal expectations--making it abnormal growth. So although nothing is totally black and white, when you are talking about an artificial substance introduced into the body for the sole purpose of creating artificial bulk...it is freakish. By definition freakish means unnatural/abnormal (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/freakish).
  
  This question wasn't about the medicinal use of steroids in athletes to decrease inflammation. But I think professional athletes often ARE freakish. lol

• We'll have to agree to disagree, because I know people who use steroids with the goal simply being a rapid build up of muscle mass that would be unachievable in the same period of time without steroids. Simply put, it's done to stack on some mass that may have been lost over winter for whatever reason in preparation for summer. That said, I don't believe it's a replacement for gaining and keeping lean mass as a way of life, through proper nutrition and diet, but that is just how most people I know roll, they don't have time or the inclination for perfect meals and the gym everyday.

• No problem. If they are able to maintain an artificially generated muscle mass naturally once achieved, kudos to them. Still, I'd prefer it just be built the natural way, however, so my answer to the question stands as 'no, I don't want all men taking steroids'.
