  • According to WorldOfPolitics on Old August 8th, 2002, 02:20 PM, the Mirror claimed that: "The US military has been involved in 250 actions since World War Two and the American people have remained in virtual ignorance of them all." http://www.theworldofpolitics.com/showthread.php?t=2328 I am not sure of the total figure, nor the validity of the information provided by WorldOfPolitics or the Mirror.
  • Not sure exactly how many wars or conflicts (does this include the war on drugs, the war on terror??) but this site covers a whole load of them - http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/ Good luck on your coming 60th !!!
  • The link below illustrates the history of American war from 1775 to 2006. War is a necessary evil. Politics, however, shouldn't be. http://www.mapsofwar.com/ind/american-wars.html
  • Technically, a formal declaration of war needs to be requested by the President and approved by congress. This has only happened 5 times in the history of the United States (War of 1812, Mexican-American War, Spanish-American War, WWI, and WWII). However, Congress has also authorized many acts of war without formal declarations. These include but are not limited to the Vietnam War, Invasion of Panama (Operation Just Cause), Persian Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm), Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom), and the Iraq War (Operation Iraqi Freedom). In total, United States soldiers have been involved in roughly 300 (appx. 289) conflicts, attacks, wars, operations, occupations, and policing events since the formation of the country.
