Does the law provide exceptions for traffic emergencies? I.e. if my license is suspended but I'm trying to drive my wife to the hospital, am I still likely to get charged with OAS?

Lot of "ifs" in this one. But probably yes. Your license is suspended therefore you are not allowed to drive, period. Was the emergency so dire that you could have called 9-1-1? Basically they're looking at you knew your license was no good so you should have, beforehand, made reasonable accommodations for transport under any circumstance. I understand your perspective but the law is seldom forgiving. Again, a lot of "ifs". Depending on why your license is suspended, the officer who stops you, the judge you'll go before, etc. Can you afford an attorney? Good luck.
