  • Check the belts in your engine. They may be loose or not fit correctly.
  • There are no loose belts! Its not 1964 car! When you are driving at 40mph, on a level road, not applying breaks at all, does it still squeal? How many miles on the car?
  • There are "idler pulleys, or sometimes called tensioner pulleys that can squeek, or rattle. Have the tensioners replaced. The bearings go bad on them and they wobble, not to harm the engine or car, but it is noisy and annoying. Sometimes these can be very expensive to replace, so have it done next time you have your timing belt replaced or other work that involves that area of the engine.
  • It could be as simple as your belt needs to be replaced. Look at you belt is it shiney? Or since it seems to happen while driving it possibly could be brakes. Front brakes last about 30,000 miles rear closer to 90,000.
  • It is coming from the back. My 2005 Dodge Viper does the same thing.
  • I have the same issue on my 05 Vue V6 AWD. It is not the brakes or whining from the radio. It is not in the engine (pulled over and reved engine-no noise) pulled back on road and it immedietly started again. Heard it was wind noise from seal on mirrors, not!! While driving and noise started pulled my mirror toward vehicle and had passenger fold theirs in- still had whining noise. Bring it to dealer, have spoken to other Vue owners with same problem. The issue is this noise comes and goes so it will have to be your lucky day to reproduce at dealer. Seems like hitting bumps or potholes trigger sometimes but not always.
  • I have the same problem with my 06 Vue AWD. It's been in the shop 3 times and will not make the noise for them. It seems to do it in the morning for a few miles. It starts around 30 mph and stops around 20. I rev the engine doing 40 mph and no change to the noise. I turned off the AC and no change. I had them change the hub thinking it was the bearings but it's still there.
  • You didn't perhaps own a cat that is now missing ?
  • It may be an idler pulley, or a tensioner pulley. an idler pulley just sits there and helps the belt get around a certain part of the engine. the tensioner pulley applies tension to the belt, keeping it from falling off, or slipping under load, (i.e. hitting the gas pedal.) get this fixed as soon as possible, cause if they brake, you are not going to get very far. you will lose power steering, alternator, a/c, so get it fixed soon. you can do it your self if you get a chiltons or haynes manual.
  • if the noise doesnt change with engine rpm then i would be inspecting your brakes. its possible a caliper is hung up or a broken return spring in the rear drums.
  • I had the same problem a year ago. There is a bearing in the center of the car that supports the drive shaft. A mechanic in the Michigan upper peninsula lubed this bearing for me and the noise went away.
  • i had the same problem with my saturn and brought it to the shop twice and it wouldnt make the noise for them. i tooke off my hub cap and thats what was making the noise even though i didnt think that was where the sound was coming from. i read on alot of other sites many saturn ownwes have the same problem.
