• The water to the building is shut off and maintenance is here.

  Her mother just came to get her, the baby, and her cat. The place is destroyed. She had just moved in and everything she owns is destroyed.
  .
  She smokes like a chimney. I call this apartment building "The Chimney" because in order for me to survive in MY apartment I have to run a $500 air purifier 24/7. She is killing her baby with the smoke but that is, unfortunately, her "right." Smoker's rights, you know.
  .
  Ah this is not drama. Keysha and I managed to get her calmed down, got the landlord called, she was afraid to leave her apartment alone so Keysha went down with her.
  .
  Now things are back to normal other than us not having water until this is fixed so no big deal.
  .
  I am just thinking of this poor girl's belongings and Christmas... and that baby's lungs.

• She asked the landlord if they are going to help her with any of it and the landlord said "you have renter's insurance, don't you?" (that is what Keysha said our neighbor told her).

  She is not even going to get help drying her clothes and we wash ours at Keysha's sister's house so we cannot even dry her clothes for her.

• Well, better water than fire. I'm sure much of her stuff can be saved and used again, even if damaged. I'm guessing, renters insurance or not, that the buildings owner can be held liable for the losses. She may have to go to small claims court but I'll bet she would win, and I'd imagine the owner will settle rather than go to court.

• yea i feel for her and her baby. especially now that it is the holidays. hopefully the insurance covers it but it doesn't make things the way they were but it helps. Good for you and Keysha Arisztid, helping your neighbor and all. At least ya'll are helping her, some people wouldn't give her mind.

• I do not know if the landlord can be held liable but if I see her again I shall suggest that she press it. Including the rest of the damage is all of her baby supplies like diapers and also her furniture and food. It was, literally, pouring into that place. Water was running out of her kitchen cupboards as well as raining down from the ceiling. Luckily her mother sounds like she is going to be able to take her in until she gets resettled.

  Your statement that at least we are helping her, Sodapap, actually is odd to me. Who would not help her? This is a girl about 18 to 20 with a young baby. They would have to have no heart.

• It's bad to eat quite a lot of fish while pregnant, because fish contain mercury which is a no-go while pregnant. But that's fine, 'cause my favourite Sushi rolls are California rolls. That's just avocado and cucumber :)

• Hey Dre - Have a whole fillet defrosting (Fillet Mignon). I just sliced up two giant Vidallias and 'halved' two cans of artichoke hearts, which are now marinating in red wine, balsamic vinegar, basil, oregano, olive oil, garlic and Parmesan cheese. Bought Celentano cheese raviolis and am making the tomato sauce as we speak. I also bought a large head of Escarole and will sauté that with fresh garlic, then douse it with some chicken stock and simmer it till tender. Tomorrow I'll stuff the gigantic mushroom caps I got and that should make a nice dinner.
