My kids have gone door to door many times over the years. When they were young I would go with them. We only go door to door in our neighborhood. It is a safe neighborhood, and now that we have been here for 13 years, we know most of the people. Now that they are teens, they go alone, but usually only to the same houses they have gone to in years gone by.

I would let them go to the doors of neighbors they know, or I would let them go with adult supervision.

If I had chidren I wouldn't let them. They could sell it to their relatives or close neighbors, friends, but doors to doors, is different and dangerous.

only if I knew the houses they were going to and if there were an adult supervising. too much danger these days. We are no longer in a trusting village situation.

Not in a million years, not for anything, not to anyone, unless I was monitoring what was happening from the sidewalk. No way.

We have two registered child molesters in my neighborhood. There are probably some in every neighborhood, registered or not. Parents who send their kids door-to-door without adult supervision are crazy, or naive to the point of incompetence.

I also have concerns about child labor. My kids shouldn't have to hawk magazines or candy or whatever to get funding for activities that should be covered by their parents' taxes. The profits taken by the manufacturers make this look like a violation of child labor laws (and again, if the parents aren't present, it looks like child neglect).

There are safer and less obnoxious ways for kids' groups to raise money than going door-to-door. Soliciting near grocery stores (again, with adult supervision) is a lot less intrusive than harrassing people in their homes, and a lot safer than sending kids to homes that may harbor predators. Or even just dogs that bite! :)

But that doesn't solve the child labor problem. I understand that there are lessons to be learned by making kids work for what they want, and a sense of accomplishment if they succeed in funding the new basketball court or trip to Boston or whatever. But the dangers involved in selling door-to-door are just too great.

Sponsoring a rummage sale in the school (or church, etc.) parking lot is one way for kids to participate safely in fund-raising. I'd go along with that.

Absolutely not! In this day and age, when there is a sex offender on almost every block, no way do my children go door to door. I'm with MommaSkye on this one.

Certainly. I have been any many of my neighbors doors with my children, not "selling anything" and never allowing them to go alone.

Personally I have ( not with small children along) gone "door to door" in some of the toughest neighborhoods in New York City. Neighborhoods where the locals will not go out at night. Neighborhoods where when you get on the subway, everyone on the train looks at you like you are lost or crazy.

In my present community which is enclosed and very safe yes.it is only a small square with about 50 bungalows on the whole site and one entrance and exit with a person at the entrance.

In any other place no I would not allow a child of mine to go door to door
Where I live they would never be out of my sight
