Mowing lawns. I had about 12 steady customers in my neighborhood. It was a pretty good deal for me for 2-3 summers. In the winter, I shoveled their snow.

Working in a big electronic store, like Bestbuy or Staples. But big brains are needed. Any decent one will do.

Whatever will teach them that they want to go to college. Stick em' in retail.

It would be better to get them involved in something that they can follow up on later. Acquiring skills, or knowledge and expertise in something valuable. Mowing lawns won't do anything to improve their skill base, regardless of its effect on their work ethic. - The national park service has some pretty awesome unpaid internships, that provide housing and daily living stipend for young people. Great for summer. Incredible experience to be involved with.

I think anything in the fast food industry so they can have social contact with strangers. It's a good learning experience.

I would say lawn mowing, baby sitting,cleaning around the house, being a paper boy, mowing the lawn or just working at the nearby shop packing groceries.
