My dad was beaten as a child and he saw his own dad beat his mom and his sisters. He did not want a family like that so he never hit us!!!!! We got grounded, not "whippings"

Never with a whip or object. If you are including spankings, a few. I usually learned not to commit the same crime twice and they were fairly administered. I deserved it. I knew I deserved it and why I deserved it. The parameters were decided beforehand, it wasn't just hitting until I cried or bled like some of you. If I'd done something big, I might get 5 or 6 licks, for something lesser, I might get 2 or 3. They stung. I didn't do that behavior again. They tapered off pretty rapidly as I ran out of ways to get into trouble and internalized a conscience.

I only remember 2. One was for pouring a glass of Coke on my dad. The other was when my cousins and I were being very rowdy and loud which woke up my parents countless times.

I never was beaten but I did receive my good share of spanking or whippings if you mean the same thing. I am sure I deserved most all of them. They never hurt anything but my youthful pride and I got over them soon and I do believe it made me a better and more honest adult. The only "swats" I ever received I felt I did not deserve was when my cousin ran up and hit me in the back. I chased her down and pulled her pigtails. The principle didn't see the hit but did see the pigtail pull. I got a trip to his Office and received 5 swats. I can chuckle about it today!

I got two from my dad & well deserved. My mom was more of a slapper & hair yanker which was also well deserved. I will say one thing, I never once thought of it as abuse(nor was it)& felt as parents they had the right to disipline me. Most of mine were from smarting off & to me their should be no tolerence for that. Kids get away with way too much mouth these days.

My mom was a big fan of the spanking, and I was bad enough that I got them regularly as a little girl. My dad just had this mean face he pulled when he was angry, and it was far more effective than the spankings.

My parents beat me for years- with paddles, whips, anything at hand. I believe it was a teacher who finally called social services. The family was forced into therapy. The beatings stopped for a time, but once I left home, my parents continued beating my siblings. Only 2 of 4 kids made it out intact; my sister and myself. My brother is a druggie on welfare in CA. My other sister is an alcoholic abuser herself.

I haven't a clue. I think my dad went overboard a couple 2-3 times... but I think I am none the worse for it... not enough would have had me worse.

I don't know how many sore bare bottom spankings (most/every spanking I remember was bare bottom) I got from both of my parents. I know I needed each & everyone I got and I deserved all of them (when I was little & getting them and to this day)! I used to get loads from the age 2 to 6 but then me and my mother moved from my dad to a crackhead estate at the age of about 8 we moved backed and it started again until i was ten and we moved out again never talked to my abusive father again. I belive in physical disapline but my father went over the top i got pushed down stairs bones broke scholdings and many worse things that caused me to rebel in later life. The abuse was so bad that when i misbehaved again and the punishment was a 100times less i relised that no punishment would ever be as bad as it was before. In short i belive you must hit but also educate afterwards and never lose your temper in doing it.

Do you really expect me to remember how many I got over 60 years ago?! I will tell you this though. I got my good share of them and they never hurt me I think I am a better person today because my parents cared enough to disipline me when I needed it. They never beat me (although back then I could have sworn they were trying to kill me)they only spanked me usually with a belt. And I know I deserved 98% of them too. If my parents were still alive today I would thank them for caring enough to be sure I minded and behaved.

I started receiving "whippings" once I could take them, per se. The belt, the hand, shoving around, in addition to grounding etc. It stopped once they realized that it was wrong. I am positive if I had grown up in the Philippines the physical punishment would have continued on much longer. I didn't think much of it when I was little because I thought it was normal.
