  • Without the Holy Spirit you cannot understand the Word of God,so does your opinion really mean anything?
  • The bible is a fairy tale. There are no gods.
  • The difficulty for most of us in the modern world is that the old-fashioned idea of God has become incredible or implausible. When we look through our telescopes and microscopes, or when we just look at nature, we have a problem. Somehow the idea of God we get from the holy scriptures doesn't seem to fit the world around us, just as you wouldn't ascribe a composition by the Beatles to The Stones. The style of God venerated in the church, mosque, or synagogue seems completely different from the style of the natural universe. It's hard to conceive of the author of one as the author of the other.
  • If I became "spiritually alive" does that mean I would have to believe the story about Adam and Eve and creation?
  • Sigh... I've read the bible as a christian and an atheist. It makes sense, sure - as a collection of stories and narrations collected over 1500 years of the history of a particular people. However, it is not unique, not amazingly accurate (nor amazingly inaccurate) and offers no truly unique insights into mankind.
  • The quote you just gave doesn't make sense. You cannot use the Bible to prove the Bible. Just because the madman says he is sane, that does not make him sane. Just because the Bible says it is sens, that does not make it sense.
  • Surely, that statement made sense to you...too bad it doesn't make sense to anybody else that is either sane or has a half a brain
  • I've never read the Bible from cover to cover as I've no desire to, but the sentance quoted makes absouletely no sense itself, so I think the question answers itself. I will make an effort to understand it, but a few things need pointing out - What are these things of God than man can not receive - What on earth does "that you are dead in your trespasspes and sins" mean. - How does God make you alive spiriatually I really think it makes no sense at all whatever way you look at it
  • So you're saying that God deliberately made man as being unable to receive the things of God? Talk about being set up. The bible makes no sense, because God chose to give me the ability to reason, and use logic. If god didn't want me to do so, why did he give me these abilities that allow me to see that the Bible contradicts itself? In so MANY ways? http://www.evilbible.com/about_evil_bible.htm
  • J you're using circular logic. If A says that B is true, and B says that A is true. You can prove neither. And as for atheists reading the bible and not having it make sense. You'll never be able to read it with intelect un-chained by faith, which is why you'll never understand why we've moved beyond you. Ask a cave man to define a car engine, and all you get is unitelligable grunting. Ask a modern man to explain a spear and you get something articulate and thoughtful.
  • Seems like when u r dead u receive stuff, therefore being dead would be unnatural if u was alive. Makes sense, if spiritualy one remembers they are alive in a different matter.
  • Because it doesn't make any sense, except as a mere collection of antiquated parables and narratives. Can you possibly explain, in terms that intelligent people will understand, why you so blindly believe that it makes sense or are you just afraid that if you don't believe it, that you might go to some fictional hell that the christian bible doesn't even bother to describe? If so, that's really not much of a reason to believe in a god or in the bible.
  • the quote above pretty much goes in a circle around itself. And the bible in many places doesnt make sense when it clearly contradicts itself. So when u read two statments that contradict themselves, it usualyy doesnt make sense
