Are you a historian? Do you know ancient history and pre (written) history that well? Do you think it was a "better place" before religion? People were "better"? What do you base this on? And how do you define "religion"? The ancient Egyptians, Persians, Greeks, and Romans were all very "religious". There is no known historical people who were not. They may have been tribal gods, but they were believed in. It is also plain from archaeology that even the people of pre-history believed in nature gods. They were also very warlike and aggressive against other peoples, not of their "tribe" or clan. Their religions had nothing to do with their being warlike and aggressive and "inhumanly" cruel. Modern "atheistic" states,governments, as the former Soviet Union, have hardly been models of humanity and "peaceful". Religion has been co-opted by many little would-be dictators and high muck-i-mucks for centuries. This does not make the religions responsible. All the so-called "religious wars" would have occurred anyway. There were other "real" reasons. Do you really think the Jewish-Arab-Palestinian continual war has anything to do with religion? Do you think North Ireland's bloody history is based on religion? Christians hating and killing other Christians because one allows condoms and the other doesn't? You don't read or study or think enough. Were the Iraq-Iran war and Saddam's invasion of Kuwait "religious wars"? Were WWI and WWII religious wars? Of course not. I submit that all these wars were and are because of a lack of true religion and faith. You may disagree, but you cannot give a proof that I am wrong. No, I don't really believe so, but it would certainly be a much better and more enlightened world without all of the fundamentalism, fanaticism, ignorance and profound bigotry that goes hand-in-hand with certain religions.
