Are laywers routinely excused from jury duty?

    No. They are often successful in obtaining deferral if they have a scheduling conflict, particularly if it involves a conflicting duty to the court, but in most jurisdictions they have to serve. That does not mean they survive voir dire (the questions from the lawyers) and peremptory challenges (no reason necessary) and "for cause" challenges from the lawyers, but if they do, they serve, in most jurisdictions.
