STEROID AND ANTIBIOTIC EYE DROPS
This medication may temporarily sting your eyes for a minute or two when you first use it. If stinging persists or worsens, inform your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these unlikely but serious side effects: vision changes. If using eye drops with chloramphenicol, notify your doctor immediately if you experience: persistent sore throat, fever, easy bleeding or bruising. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling (including in or near the eyes), dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

You will be prescribed long-term steroids (i.e. for months or years) only if your doctor thinks it’s important for your health. Here are the more important long-term side effects, which you should look out for. Not everyone gets these side effects.
* Eye problems: poor vision due to problems with the eye lens (cataract) or increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma)
* Muscle weakness
* Thinning of the bones and increased risk of fractures
* Reduced growth in children (your doctor and nurse will check carefully for this)
* High blood pressure
* Change in appearance, and skin changes: bruising, ‘stretch marks’, acne, sweating, weight gain, developing a rounder face (which disappears after stopping treatment).
