Identical twins are the result of the fertilisation and then the splitting of one egg.So they are two parts of one whole growing into individual but identical babies

Non identical twins are the result of two eggs being fertilised at the same time. Therebye growing and looking as different as any other brother and sister

A very simple explanation but it works for me

Identical Twins are the twins that look alike and it should be a boy/boy or girl/girl. Identical Twins are formed when 1 male sperm reaches one ovule ( Women Egg ) and later on this ovule will divide by itself into 2 ovules and the babies will grow in 1 sac in the uterus .. While Faternal twins could be boy/boy , girl/girl or boy/girl are formed when 2 sperms reach 2 ovules and grow each one in a different sac in the uterus of the female
