  • Yes it is true. Newer cars have computers that control the engine, etc, and a power surge (like jump starting) can interfere with the computer. You can get jumper leads to use with newer cars with surge protection inbuilt. If you carry these no one can complain.
  • Absolutely, one of the problems with modern cars is the computers sensitivity. Modern cars cannot really be used to jump start other cars as it can blow the computer due to a power surge, and this is quite likely to happen when jump starting. As _tani1 poimted out, these days you can buy jump leads with surge protection, removing that issue.
