I have no idea, but it reminds me of the character Alf Stewart in Aussie soap Home And Away, he once said someone was "running around like a flaming pork chop" which amused me, as I would imagine that meant not running around at all then....
I believe it originated with this question.
A man interviewed on NPR used the phrased "cutting the salami too thinly to get to work." Did he just make this up? I haven't heard it before and don't see any other references in google.
