  • The whole American Civil War 1861-65. Alaskan purchase was soon after (?). Custer's Last Stand 1876. The Suez Canal opened in 1869. Krakatoa erupted in the early 1880s. There were several regime changes and revolutions during that time, but I'm fuzzy on specifics: Spanish Revolution, England expanded in India and Africa, Mexico changed leaders several times, the Meiji empire was restored in Japan (leading to later rebellion and isolationism), Boxer Rebellion in China (may have been a bit later).
