Vomiting would make them beulimic. They are actually 2 very different disorders. Anorexics just don't eat. Beulimics will eat but vomit shortly after before their body can absord the nutrition.

There are different classifications of eating disorders in all categories.

Anorexia Nervosa, restricting type: Eats very little and rarely, if ever indulges in binge/purge behaviour.

Anorexia Nervosa, purging type: Same as above, but this behaviour is broken by periods in which the individual WILL break down and uncontrollably eat, after which they will purge themselves and resume restricting their intake. This differs from bulimia because bulimics binge and purge frequently and do not restrict their intake to the extreme levels that either type of anorexic would. Also, a purging anorexic may not binge eat, but may purge the small amounts of food they have consumed in a day.

(Also, medically, anorexics have a body mass index of less than 17.5 and bulimics are USUALLY normal or slightly overweight. Not many true bulimics are underweight since part of the diagnostic criteria that separates Bulimia Nervosa from Anorexia Nervosa, purging type, is the fact that bulimics regularly consume large amounts of calories.)

Everything differs from person to person.

EDIT: Also, keep in mind that the stereotypical image of an anorexic as portrayed by the media is not entirely accurate. Most anorexics DO indulge in purging behaviour, simply because it is not possible to maintain such a high level of discipline indefinitely. There are very few clinically diagnosed anorexics who never purge at least occasionally.

I'm not sure that they calculate ALL of their calorie intake, but rather check for the calories to see that there aren't many. The fact that there aren't many in whatever they choose to eat may comfort them, and after they've vomitted, makes them believe that they haven't had many calories at all, and they aren't getting "fat".
My friend went through this, and by observing her, I'm able to say this with the belief that I'm atleast partially correct in my answer.

You can't lump all eating disorders into one. Not all anorexic people vomit...that is actually more specifically Bulimia, though there are variations of both.
