Personally I think it is the ones that they perceive as being the loudest and most excitable when they are waiting to enter the studio
I remember a long time ago that one of the models thought a guy was cute so they picked him and they said the models pick the most lively contestants -
Supposedly it's randomly drawn from people entering the show, you give your name if you would like to be eligible. I actually feel they watch you in line when waiting to get in and if you are real energetic or have a clever sign or shirt or part of a big group etc, your chances increase.
They love members of the military.
I think they have the names of every audience member stored in a database. Then, at the start of the show, the announcer says '.... ...., come on down!'
When the audience is standing in line waiting for filming to start they pick groups of people to go in and interview with the producers. They usually pick people that are very excited and show enthuism. It's not really random at all.
